Dan Bahrami and Brendan Kearney of acclaimed acoustic folk band, Broken Boat, have just released their new animated music video, Peace and Quiet via muzu.tv.  Praised for both lyrics and music by Bob Harris on Radio 2 earlier this year, Broken Boat have won  a well-deserved reputation on the London folk scene for their ‘beautifully crafted …twisting melodies..of love and loss’. Now they look set to carve out a reputation for their visual creativity as well. Their new animated music video, Peace and Quiet, is being released to accompany the title track of their debut EP with independent record label, Which Wolf Wins. It is quite unlike most other music videos, as Peace and Quiet never takes itself too seriously: it sets out only to delight and amuse us with its playfulness.

An enchantingly rich visual texture forms a stylised background of sea and sky against which are played out the adventures of a plucky little sailing boat (the eponymous Broken Boat). The animation was created by Broken Boat’s talented singer-songwriter Dan and multi-instrumentalist Brendan Kearney who are also partners in Molk Design. Its remarkable technical quality is a prodigious achievement for a first animation by two 23 year olds whose training has encompassed architecture and book illustration, but not animation. Never daunted by a creative challenge they have used the contrasting tone of the song and the visuals to underscore and deepen the experience of both by cleverly matching the drama and pathos in each.
Broken Boat’s animated music video, Peace and Quiet, is available to view on muzu.tv from Monday March 25th through to Wednesday 27th. From Thursday the 29th it will also be available via YouTube and other popular online video channels. Broken Boat’s music can be downloaded from iTunes and their CD can be ordered from their website www.brokenboat.co.uk
Broken Boat are performing live at The Troubadour in Earls Court on Tuesday 16th April.
